Air bubbles in both primer and the paint?

I painted first wall of bedroom without using a primer, and used a thick roller pad. It was full of air bubbles when finished.
Decided to try primer on a small area on a second wall (bubbles actually formed in the primer so didn't bother painting this area) and used a thin roller pad. I still have air bubbles. What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like the walls are either new sheet rock or you are painting over old dirty(oil,grease,) walls or the paint on there now has a gloss finish to it. If the walls are new rock you need to make sure that you have wiped them down to get any dust off of them. You can get the wall pretty wet to ensure it was cleaned well and it will dry in a few hrs.
If you are painting over walls that have a gloss finish on them the only thing you can do is to sand the entire area you want to paint. You can use a block of wood and wrap sandpaper(100 grit) around it and sand away. Make sure when finished you again wash walls to clean off the remaining dust.
I would also never paint a wall without using a top grade primer. This will ensure that the paint will have a good base to adhere to and will help the paint last longer.
Also a 1/2" nap roller is fine with flat surfaces, start by making a large W on the wall and then go up and down to fill in the area in between.
