How to remove a pilot bushing?

My dad was working on his chevy s10 pickup an he tried to remove the pilot bushing. he tried packing it and he tried using a bearing puller but neither worked, his freind said it looked like it had beenglued in. theyve tried just about everything they know to do to get it out but nothing is working. anybody got any ideas on how to get it out ?

Find a shaft that fit's snugly in bushing. Pack inside with wheel bearing grease.
Hit shaft with a 4 pound hammer, and re-pack as needed to prevent shaft from going too deep.
Are you sure it's not a bearing?
