How do I maximize my download speed?
According to speedtest.net, my download speed is 1290 kb/s while my upload speed is 321 kb/s. I have Yahoo DSL (SBC) with a router. From that information, can anyone tell me why I cannot get above a 150kb/s download speed when I am downloading something from the internet? How can I gauge if my download speed is within range with the given information above. Also, how can I get a faster download speed (above 150 kb/s) without upgrading. Please do not tell me to keep my computer clean or scan for viruses because I have already done that.
Don't confuse kilobits (kb) with kilobytes (kB).
One kilobyte = 8 kilobits, so while your download speed is said to be 1290kbps, the speed in your browser is given in kilobytes. 1290kb makes about 160kB, so your download speed is alright.
