What to expect after MMI from Harley davidson?

I wish to attend MMI and graduate, ive spoken with a (recruiter/guidance consular) and he tells me of a great big world of opportunities out there, ALAS that's what everyone wants to hear, im only 6 hrs away from the orlando campus. My biggest question is can i afford to live down there and maintain my bills as well as pay my student loans??!? and on top of it all the snap on tool discount upon graduation is 50% off but damn it cost 25,000 just to attend and then throwing tools on top of that! MY 14$hr job is struggling now i couldn'timaginene the cost of living my bills and that all rolled into one! i hope there's a 20$hr job waiting for me when i get out! But theres NO guaranteetee?

MMI *is* a good school, and if I remember they do have a good placement percentage (or at least did). Learning wise, they're one of the best. You can get student loans to pay most of it, as well as your initial tool bills. The education you get is worth the bucks - it is like having a college degree in scooter wrenching - and a lot cheaper than learning in the school of hard knocks and lost jobs.

Tools are expensive (even with that discount, which is worth its weight in platinum - you will eventually end up with easily 30 grand in tools) but you build that as you need it.

Living there is tough, but if you split a place or rent a room it's survivable. You want to be a scooter wrench for a living, it's a good way to start.

Also, you hit bike shops, willing to shop rat or whatever till they get to know you, you can almost talk your way into a job, as long as (1) you pay attention and take the school deadly serious, (2) bust your hump and study your ass off, (3) learn how to work both *good* and *fast*, and (4) realize that even with your shiny new cert and skills, you're at the bottom of the shop pecking order until the next noob gets there (which might mean doing parts runs on the POS Honda 750, doing a lot of grunt work jobs, etc) - it's hard, but ya gotta as they say "man up" to it and deal with it.

Eventually, you'll have the shop time to either move up or move on - either to a better dealership (some really suck, btw, find out which ones beforehand!!!) or to an independent shop. More than likely, you'll also take classes when you're out to stay fresh on new tech, improve your ability on other bikes (so if someone on a Yapasaki 650 wheezed into your HD shop because you were the only game in 100 miles, you can fix it and make $$$ for the shop) and get better.

You're right. There IS no guarantee. But if you play it right - YOU become your own guarantee. Because you will KNOW what you're doing. And when some broad pulls her shimmying '91 FLTC in, who has not the time to fix it herself (see, she was a scooter wrench herself for years, tho you don't know that) , you won't give her the Bullshit snowjob of the century, and lose your shop a customer, but do the right job quick and fast and get her out (less some green) and your dealer gets the rep that gets others into your shop.
