Can the rear seats fold on a 1984 Chrysler Concorde? (improve car audio!!)?

I have a 1984 Chrysler Concorde, front wheel drive, and i am wondering in the seats in the back can fold down (so that i can access the trunk). I do not see any release latch, and it appears to be steal behind the seat....If there is no quick way to fold them down, any advice on how to custom modify it? my goal is to be able to make my subs louder by not having them sealed off from the rest of my car)

well with custom u have lotsa choices
1. take out rear setas completely(backseat passengers hate this)
2. Make just a port through them and put in an armrest or grill(can look shity if done wrong)
3. cut out the rear deck where the componets are sitting.(can weaken structure)
4.put the subs right in the backseat(absolute loudest u will get)
5.give up

Best Way to Improve Car Audio

One of the best ways to improve the quality of stereo sound in your car has nothing to do with your stereo. Many of the new car models have a real problem with road noise, that's noise coming from outside the vehicle. This noise makes it difficult to talk on the phone, listen to music, or even talk with passengers while driving.

Many of the new economy cars get great mileage but transmit a lot of noise from outside the vehicle. Some of this is due to cost savings and reducing the overall weight of the vehicle to get better mileage. Regardless of the reason, many new vehicles have a tremendous amount of "road noise" that comes up through the floor and door side panels.

One way to lower the amount of noise coming from outside the vehicle is to install dampening material to block sounds from outside. There are several popular products from Dynamat, B-Quiet, Cascade, Fatmat, and Raammat. All of the different products materials are similar, made of sheets of a soft substance with adhesive on one side, and that is kind of half-solid, half-liquid. It is important to make sure you get good contact with the outer shell of your car. This will insure the maximum benefit from the material and absorb the most sound.

Some areas like your car hood and roof can get very hot and may need material that works at high temperatures with no problems. B-Quiet has a separate material that works well in high temperature applications. The material is very pliable and can be cut with normal scissors. Each manufacturer uses a different adhesive and some might give off an unpleasant smell for a few weeks after installation.

There are three main areas to dampen. First is the car hood, then the floorboards and vehicle top, then the door side panels. Some vehicles may also require you insulate the trunk lid too. Each area has its challenges, door panels and headliner areas may require special tools and skills.

Another advantage to applying this type of material is it improves the insulation of your vehicle. Cars with little or no material between the engine and road, and the seating area can be tough to cool in the summers. Corvettes are well know for having a big problem with heat coming from the engine compartment and being difficult to cool in high temperatures.

But the biggest improvement from using the dampening materials is the reduction of noise coming from outside the passenger compartment. Even if you have a great stereo receiver and stereo speakers, background noise can interfere with the nuances of great sound. And you can keep the volume down where you can even have a conversation.

What's this material cost? Well, prices vary by quantity and manufacturer but you could use about $3 per square foot as a guide. There are special versions for the heat intensive areas that might cost more and if you buy in large quantities you might get a little better price.

If you're not handy with tools you can find local installers of these products. The cost increases dramatically but may be worth it if you plan on owning your car for a long period of time. Or, the next time you go to pick out a new car, go for a test drive and determine if the amount of outside noise. Of course the high-end models usually have a much better dampening built in from the factory.

Car Amplifiers: What Are They?

Is the sound quality on your car stereo at best, awful? But uncertain what to do about it? It's about time you invest in an amplifier for your stereo, but what are they exactly?

Most of us have little knowledge when it comes to electronics, hence, it can be very difficult for those of us who are not in on this ‘loop of knowledge' to know what to exactly purchase. Often going up to the sales assistant for advice is a task that at least makes one sweat, as the sales assistant tries to sell you extra products that you will probably not want or need.  Going into a shop with even a little knowledge is certainly better than going in naïve and unarmed.

Car stereos are these days not the simplest of electronics, as they have a number of gadgets that are designed to improve sound quality – one of these being the amplifier. This is a separate system from your stereo, which aims to amplify audio signals when the car's stereo's amplification is insufficient. It strengthens the audio signal when driving, so that the sound is at an appropriate level for car speakers when driving.

Amplifiers or amps, as they have been appropriately shortened to, are classified under the number of channels they have. A channel is one power or speaker output of an amplifier. Most people who want a reasonable signal and sound quality will go for either a two to four channel amp, whilst those with a specialist interest in car stereos will choose a amp with a bigger number of channels, as the more channels you have the more adds on and gadgets you can have.

When considering purchasing an amplifier it is highly important to ask questions about the amps efficiency and power. By efficiency, I mean how efficiently the amp consumes and distributes energy. For instance, an amp might consume 100 watts of power from the battery, and only distribute half of this to the speakers, whilst the rest is transformed into heat. In the amps specifications, it will tell you the minimum and maximum output of energy as well as the power output (in ohms).

Amplifiers are also classified into A, A/B,B and D. These divisions refer to the way the amp operates, for instance class A are inefficient power consumers but the sound output is generally better. These are, however, rarer than their counterparts. The most common amp is the A/B class – a highly efficient amp that provides excellent quality sound output. Whilst, a class D is the most efficient model, reaching up to 80% efficiency, and is often combined with highly inefficient subwoofers, so that the stereo and its additional equipment don't use too much battery power.

An amp is one part of a car audio system, however it is not necessary, unless you want subs and in turn, overall better sound quality.
