how to connect the power on wire to my kenwood amplifier using a genuine car stereo that have no amp power on?

am planning to connect my kenwood amplifier to the genuine car stereo and i found a speakers level input in my amplifier (Kenwood KAC-749S) but i still have to find a way to connect the power on lead ?

Hello

First question do you have a 2 Power supply radio?
Red Fused and switched,
Yellow No Fuse and Permanent.
With only 1 Earth?
If so, and most are now (coded) then the best you will do is to insert a 4 pin Relay
The relay pins are normally marked as 30 85 86 87.
Red power wire between the fuse and radio connects to 30
Earth connects to 87
New power supply wire (Fused) connects to 86
Wire from Amp connect to 87.
Amp Earth connects to good ground
If you mount the Relay in the Dash remember to leave the In-Line Fuse where you can get to it.
This will mean that your Amp will turn On/Off with your ignition .
Before the 2nd Power supply became common you could have inserted the Relay pin 30 on the earth wire and left the Amp turned on and it would turn On/Off with the radio.

Boats live on water so you really cannot expect to avoid some exposure to water in that environment. It also offers other dangers to an audio system such as humidity, wind, salt, corrosion, chlorine, sun, and so on.

For a quality marine system install, it is the design of the system which is so critical for the components and installation. When designing a balanced sound system, look at a few requirements such as the source, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, installation more carefully. Here are a few simple steps to help you with your install:

• Look over your boat and find areas where audio products can be safely placed so that they do not get wet. Most people put their amplifiers engine compartments in the rear of the boat or sometimes under the dashboard. Put the subwoofers in the compartment under the seats. You'll have your new stereo unit replace the old, original one. If you have any room in the side panels of the boat or under the dash, then put any and all of your mid-range and mid-bass speakers and tweeters in there.
• Draw a schematic of the system layout. Think about where you will be putting all of the audio components and where you will route the wires.
• Make sure you buy audio speakers made with a polypropylene cone. It a cone made from a rigid material which is known for resisting moisture. It's best to use two 10-inch subwoofers designed for infinite baffle mounting. Another available option is to include four speaker separates such as four 6- by 9-inch two-way speakers or four 6 1/2-inch two-way speakers. Two-way speakers are great because they include a midrange or mid-bass speaker and a tweeter and the more separates your system has, the louder it will be.
• Find yourself a good four-channel amplifier. Look for one specifically made for the marine environment. It will have specially treated circuit board enabling it to last longer around water and moisture. Companies like Rockford, Eclipse and Clarion make some nice models. Choose one with a built-in electronic crossover and runs stable with a 2 ohm load because it will be running very hot.
• Select a stereo head unit that can be controlled by an infrared remote control allowing you to keep the unit safely stored in a dry place, covered in plastic and still handy. Remember that for the remote to work properly it still needs to be in a line of sight to the unit. So part of it still needs to be exposed.

  It is also a good idea to have everything hooked up to a second battery, as well. This battery is used to power the audio system and upgrade the boat's alternator.

I can remember when I was a kid and we really wanted a stereo our cars sometimes we would put home stereo speakers in our rides and even though some people like to put home stereos in their cars and vans, sometimes it just doesn't work. Back in the day it worked okay with a simple radio or cassette player but these days with high tech CD players and MP3 players as well as the new pop up display LCDs that even play videos you just can't go cheap with the speakers. In addition to that home speakers aren't made for the small environment of a car; they are made for the home.

Like I said, some of us did use home units in our cars as a first stereo for our cars. Even though they didn't sound all that great at least it beat not having anything at all. The problem is that they aren't constructed to deal with the high temperature extremes and the bumps and jolts that a car stereo is built to deal with in an automotive environment. Of course true car stereo lovers were very dissatisfied with the quality of the sound in the earlier systems and when CD players came out the need for even higher quality speakers and other components was increased.

For those who own a vehicle that was made from 1990 to the present day you will already have some kind of factory stereo in your vehicle. This is because in the vast majority of vehicles made from that time period include stereos as standard equipment unless it is some kind of base model work vehicle. Some of the higher end automakers produce their own signature stereo systems. BMW now makes their own while Volkswagen and Mercedes all use systems from the German audio company, Blaupunkt which is a favorite of mine.

These days a good quality stereo system now will include a cassette player, a CD player either in dash or with an optional changer that will service more CDs which is usually trunk mounted. My Nissan Titan actually has an 8 disc CD changer mounted right in the dash. The newer models also are capable of playing MP3s usually though an audio plug in like the one my Titan has.

Stereo systems today consist of head units that are connected to numerous speakers, not like the old mono speakers that were only in the center of the dash. Now you have speakers in the doors, both sides of the dashboard, and in the rear of the car. Some larger cars and SUVs today have as many as 10 or 12 speakers in them which gives you an almost concert quality sound.

If you are new to the car stereo market, you may find yourself overwhelmed at the sheer number of parts and accessories that can make up a top of the line car stereo system. In this article, we'll explore the basic components that make up a functioning car stereo system.

1. The Head Unit: Making It Happen

You may have seen the term "head unit" before and not known what exactly it was. Simply put the head unit is the part of your car stereo that actually produces the music from radio, tape, CD, or other device. But nowadays you can also get head units for your car stereo that can play DVDs or music and video from USB flash drives or memory cards. Head units have sure come a long ways from when people used to install home stereo equipment in their vehicles!

2. Amplifiers: Bring the Boom

While your head unit may provide its own internal amplification (which may be enough for you), at some point most car stereo enthusiasts will want to add amplifiers to the mix. Simply put, and amplifier takes a signal coming out of your head unit, and makes it louder. Be careful when shopping for amplifiers, as some of the large amps can draw over 100 amps; this may be well over what your alternator and battery can provide, and can cause damage to those components.

3. Speakers: Woofers, Tweeters, What?

The best head unit and amp is completely useless without speakers. Speakers, regardless of size, all do one thing: take the electrical signal coming from either the head unit's internal amp or your external amp and turn it into sound, usually loud sound. The different types of speakers are classified by the range of sounds they can reproduce. Tweeters, for example, only reproduce high pitches, while woofers reproduce the upper bass ranges. Midranges make midrange sounds, strangely enough, while subwoofers cover sounds from the low bass all the way down to subsonics (those sounds you can feel but not hear). Subwoofers are usually the first candidate for external amplifiers, since they require large amounts of current to make that bone shaking bass.

Putting It All Together

Let's review: head units take your CD or tape and convert it to electrical signals. The amplifier makes this signal larger, and finally the speakers take that signal and make sound out of it. These are the base components you need for any car stereo installation. The accessories, such as crossovers and signal isolators, may or may not be needed for your particular application.

These are the basics you need to know for all car stereo systems. Now that you have a better idea what all these different terms actually mean, you should be able to shop intelligently for your new car stereo system. Just remember, as always, while you get what you pay for, you don't necessarily have to have the absolute best (and most expensive) parts for a good sound. More often than not, a midrange product will provide the best bang for your buck. And remember, it's all modular! You don't HAVE to buy every piece all at once. You can start with the head unit, and simply wire it's built in amplifier into your factory car stereo speakers. Add a sub and an amp later if you want, or replace the factory speakers with higher quality ones, it's all up to you.

I’ve been selling car audio amplifiers online for over a decade now. Through the years, the single most often asked question is “how do I select an amplifier for my new speakers or subwoofer?”

LetÂ’s try to de-mystify this selection process if we can. This information is presented to help the online-shopper make reasonable decisions. It is geared toward the published information that is generally available in most product descriptions on the web. LetÂ’s face the facts, if you have been in the line of car audio for years and have completed several installs, you know what you are looking for. But many, if not most online shoppers are not that familiar with the finer points of car amplifier installations.

Many, who are new to car audio will first look for “US made” as a stamp of high quality. Although that might have been true when I first started out decades ago, it certainly isn’t a serious guideline anymore. Honestly speaking, even some of the most famous named amps, associated with good old American production are in reality developed and manufactured in the Far East today. You will be very hard pressed to find any car audio products made in the USA today. In addition if you do find that one out of fifty brands that might be assembled in the USA, you’ll choke at the price.

Most shoppers will purchase their speakers or subwoofers first and then go shopping for an amplifier. So youÂ’ll have the recommended specifics in hand (for your speakers) as you start your amplifier search. This is definitely the suggested order if you desire to find a proper match.

Usually shoppers will immediately look at the power output of an amplifier first. When considering the power, you should also consider the maximum impedance specified by the amp. Most classic amplifiers by the likes of Nakamichi, Alpine, Linear Power, Orion, Precision Power, Eclipse, and US Amps will be capable of 2 ohm and even 1 ohm operation in the case of class D subwoofer amps. But in the real world, you should compare the ampÂ’s output capability at 4 ohms. In the majority of installs, you will be building a 4 ohm setup. At one time, the names mentioned above and most other quality amps would only publish their specific output at RMS or continuous power ratings and never the maximum output. Unfortunately, due to the changing market place, almost all amplifier manufacturers publish the maximum output of their amps. Beware of this since it can be most misleading. Lets be honest, who cares what an amplifier can produce for a period of 1 millisecond? Published maximum output is really very misleading and near worthless to the installer. This is nothing but an advertising ploy to make the shopper think he is getting more power for his dollar spent. We want to compare the continuous output of an amp since it is a much better method of comparison and represents how your amp will be used.

The second subject to check is the “signal to noise ration” (SNR) of an amplifier. Obviously the higher this ratio, the better it is. Although this is not particularly important if searching for a subwoofer amp, it certainly should be a deciding factor in purchasing a good amp to drive your mids and tweeters.

The above two points will enable a shopper to match an amp to his new speakers but there are several other more general points to consider also. One such point is: does your car radio or source unit have a low-level output connection? This allows you to connect directly to the standard low-level inputs on your amp. If your head unit isnÂ’t so equipped, youÂ’ll need an amplifier with a high-level input. This high-level input enables you to connect your speaker wires from your head unit directly to the amp. There are adapters available if your selected amp doesnÂ’t have this feature, so donÂ’t let this point rule out an otherwise acceptable amplifier.

You should also consider your physical location for your install before shopping. Be sure you can secure your amp properly and that the location provides enough air circulation. DonÂ’t forget to measure the installation area to ensure you purchase an amplifier that will fit. DonÂ’t laugh, IÂ’ve had more then a few customers over the years forget this basic requirement until it was too late.

If your amp will power two sets of speakers such as a component set in front and a coaxial or mids in the rear, I would recommend purchasing a four channel amp instead of a stereo amp. This will give you full fader control which will not be available if you split one stereo channel for two sets of speakers, front and rear. Sometimes your local installers will suggest going with multiple amps instead. Could the reason be that they desire to sell another amp and set of installation parts?

Another option to look for is built-in low-pass and high-pass crossovers. Finally, be sure your amp has a gain control. This is necessary to properly match your vehicle sound levels to your speakers when installed in your specific vehicle. This also allows you to purchase an amplifier that might be a bit larger or more powerful then your speakers with a view to expanding your system in the future. Going along with this thought, if purchasing a multi-channel amplifier, you should consider one capable of running at 2 ohms in case you ever decide to add a subwoofer at a later date. Spending a few dollars more up front can save you in the long run.

For decades now, car people have always pushed their car stereos to the limit in order to produce the best sound possible. The thought behind it is to have all the speakers in your car set up exactly like that surround sound audio system you have in your living room. There is a reason why everyone wants one in their car. It simply sounds incredible. Here is how you can go about bringing that movie theater sound experience into your daily ride to work.

• One of the first goals to check off your list is find a stereo head unit which allows you to wire in a surround-sound processor. Since the processor will be digital, your head unit needs to supply a digital signal. You will also need fiber-optic cables. They are used to transmit digital signals between the components. If you previously purchased a nice head unit but it cannot supply digital signals, get a CD changer with fiber-optic connection. Connect the processor to the CD changer but remember that unit you will not get a surround-sound effect, if you play a CD. You can always select a surround-sound processor that converts RCA signals to digital.
• Make sure your car is equipped with a high-end CD changer and/or DVD unit that plays the software that carries the surround-sound signals.
• You should install a five-channel amplifier that can provide power for the front speakers, the rear speakers, and the subwoofers. Each corner of the car plus the subwoofers will be separate channels.
• The center channel should have a 4- to 6-inch midrange speaker and a tweeter. This type of combination should be in its own enclosure and placed in the center portion of the carÂ’s dashboard.
• You now need to install an amplifier to run the center-channel speakers. You can get away with a two-channel amplifier played bridged mono but have it contain an electronic crossover which can be outboard, or built in to the amplifiers.
• You are now set to begin installing the speakers which will be in all four corners of the car. Some of the newer cars already have speaker locations work perfectly surround-sound setting. Older cars are a different story and will require a touch of imagination and some work. YouÂ’ll need to add a tweeter high on the pillar at shoulder height, while a midrange speaker is used in the factory-made opening in the door.
• Now that all of your speakers are in place, set the electronic crossover for the center channel. Don't play it at full range but opt instead for about 80 Hz and up for optimal sound quality.
• Once everything has been installed, adjust the system to find the perfect fit of sound quality and volume for you. Play around with the amplifier gains and then the surround sound processor for any type of tweaks you may need.

Well actually its real simple. You don't have to charge it but when you first hook it up and turn it on you'll hear a pop but don't worry its just the electricity going in the capacitor because its empty. Repairing the DELL E153Fpc LCD Monitor with the complaint of display shutdown after few seconds (power LED still on) was not difficult. Normally when this type of problem happens, we would first suspect the inverter board, then the filter capacitors and lastly the main board. A defective in one of the lamps and a faulty TL1451AC PWM IC or inverter ic may caused the display to shutdown as well. If the lamp is defective, it will send a feedback to pin 3 or 14 of TL1451AC IC and caused it to stop producing output signal thus the display just shut off once you switch it on. The power board is using a SG6841D pwm ic and a FQPF7N80 power fet . If this power section blow, it is quite easy to troubleshoot because it has fewer components. You can also use other part numbers to substitute the power fet.

As usual, after opening up the cover, I would first check for any burnt components, loose connector, cracked board, dry joints and etc before doing the voltage test. As for the lamps, I would check it last because lamps were seldom spoilt. Upon scanning for any bad components before starting the voltage test, I found a filter capacitor that had turned into darker color. Using the ESR meter revealed the ESR ohm has shoot up to 12 ohms. This filter capacitor located at C922 with the value of 1000 micro farad 16 volt. If you donÂ’t have the ESR meter you can always use the digital capacitance meter. The value that I got from measuring the bad capacitor was 57 microfarad. If you donÂ’t have ESR meter, make sure you get one-itÂ’s fast and accurate.

Now, the question is why a filter capacitor can cause the display to shutdown? If you carefully see the picture, I’ve drawn the yellow path to show you how the voltage is flowing. By the way, the voltage at the bad filter capacitor line is 12 volt. The voltage passed through a SMD transistor in the start circuit and flow straight to pin 9 (VCC) of TL1451AC IC. In order to let the 12 volt to flow through the transistor and reach the vcc pin of the ic, first, a ‘on’ signal must be sent from the main board to trigger the transistor. If no signal send to the transistors (off signal), both transistors can’t be turned on and no voltage will follow through the ic. Thus if the main board or any of the start circuit components spoilt, there will be power but no display because the TL1451AC would not send signal to the Royer type L, C resonant and boost circuit, so no high voltage produced by the high voltage transformer and this will lead to no display.

In the above case, the LCD Monitor display shutdown was due to the ripple because of the bad filter capacitor. The ripple caused the TL1451AC IC to be unstable and eventually shutdown the output signal. Replacing only the filter capacitor solved the DELL E153Fpc LCD Monitor shutdown problem.

Conclusion, donÂ’t always presumed that LCD Monitor is very tough or difficult to repair. From the above article, you could see that the caused of the shutdown problem was only a bad capacitor. If you fully understood how LCD Monitor works, then chances for you to successfully repair the monitor is very high but again it depends on the availability of spare parts. If you ever come across any LCD Monitor sent to you for repair for the first time, go ahead and start troubleshoot it. Who knows one day LCD Monitor repair could become one of the major source of income to you and your business.

ItÂ’s the one piece of equipment that can really make or break your home theater system; the remote control. ItÂ’s no good to have the latest and greatest gear and worldÂ’s biggest DVD collection if you canÂ’t figure out how to use anything. True home theater nirvana is a fantastic performing system anyone can use with a single button press.

Many of today’s home theater receivers and surround processors come with a “smart” remote control. Some of these are actually pretty good too. B&K and Denon come to mind. If you know what you are doing, you can get one of these babies programmed to orchestrate your entire system pretty well. If you haven’t the time or inclination for such a project yourself, hire a professional installer to bring everything together for you. A great place to start is CEDIA (Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association). They have member firms in every state, and many foreign countries, that are experts in making complex home theaters easy to use.

Remote controls come in several flavors. The one most people are familiar with comes with almost any electronic component you buy these days. For the most part it does a pretty good job at making the particular component do what you want. Some of these even let you control other components, especially if they are from the same manufacturer. This way, for example, you can use your TV remote to also control your VCR or DVD player.

The next rung up the remote control ladder is the so called “smart remote”. This type of remote is able to control multiple pieces of equipment from different manufacturers. Some can control up to 8 or 10 different components. They are usually set to control each piece of equipment by entering a 3 or 4 digit code. Some of these units will learn control functions from other remote controls. This is helpful if the unit you need to control is not in your remote control’s internal database. You usually accomplish the learning by entering a “learn” mode on the smart remote, pointing the “teaching” remote at the smart remote and pressing the desired button. Viola! Your smart remote has learned the command from the original remote control.

If you want things even easier than using just one remote to control everything, you need a remote that does macros. These are command sequences initiated by pressing one button. For example, you want to watch a DVD. Typically you would have to turn on your TV, DVD player and surround receiver. Then you would have to switch your TV to the component input and your receiver to the DVD input. With a macro capable remote, this sequence is programmed into the remote. The remote then plays back all the commands in the appropriate order so you donÂ’t have to.

If you want a remote that controls everything, you need a remote with a lot of different buttons. This can make the remote a little intimidating. Sure it can do almost anything but make toast, but where to start? If you have the budget, now is the time to get a touch screen remote. With a touch screen, you typically have only a few actual buttons. These are typically the most used functions such as volume up / down, channel up / down, mute and possibly cursor functions.

All other buttons are just icons on a screen that you touch to initiate the desired command. The beauty of this approach is that you only need to have just a few icons on the screen at any one time. This really cuts down on button clutter and confusion. The icons can be graphical representations of the command, which makes everything very intuitive. For example, you can have an “NBC” logo you touch to go to the local NBC station.

Touchscreen remotes come in four basic variations. First there is the choice of color or grayscale. Color looks better and more information can be conveyed more quickly. Grayscale units are much less expensive. Next, the communication with the remote can be one way or two way. Two way communication allows status to be updated on the remote itself. For example you can display album and artist information from a music server or check the status of your security system or thermostats. Two way communication has been provided via a two way radio link, similar to a digital spread spectrum telephone.

The latest two way remote controls being introduced from companies such as AMX and Crestron use WiFi. This allows a whole host of other possibilities. The range is spectacular for one thing. You can roam around your entire home. On some units you can browse the internet too. Imagine, you are watching a game but you want updates from around the league. Just go to ESPN.com on your remote and take a look.

The remote can really make or break your system. You can have an unusable system with 7 different remotes or a slick system that even visitors can use with no instruction. ItÂ’s all up to you, your budget and your programmer.

You have chosen your new car stereo and now it is time to install. The final result will depend on the quality of the installation. It won't matter how expensive your car stereos system is if you do not install it correctly. Your speaker sound will depend on the amplifier and the type of enclosure. Your amplifier will depend on the current, and the current will depend on the alternator and the wiring. Mistakes will leave you with disappointing results. Here are a few tips that will make the installation of your car stereos system a success:

The first thing you should do is determine the location of the speakers. Speaker location is the key to quality sound. The distance between the left and right speakers and the distance between the left and right ears is not always the same. Try to make the difference between the left and right speakers as little as possible. You may have better luck if you place the speakers on the floor, but you do run the risk of the sound seemingly coming from below. The location of your speakers is imperative to the sound quality you get from your car stereo. When installing your car stereos system, place the speakers temporarily in various locations to find the perfect sound before you install them permanently.

After you have determined the perfect location for your speakers, you must use Dynamat or other similar materials to stop vibration. This is to prevent the metal panels from becoming part of your sound system. How you connect your cables and the location of the cables is essential to achieving a top quality sound from your car stereos system. Some install huge amplifiers in an attempt to get the best sound from their speaker. The fact is you do not need to over do it on the amplifier; you simply need good quality cables to connect it.

Now you can begin the installation of the amplifiers and head unit. You can choose to use the factory wires or you may want to give the head unit a separate circuit. If your car stereo has excellent quality factory audio you should have no need for an additional circuit. Use good quality cables and do not cut costs on clamps and distribution blocks. This is the time to install filters as well.

Building a speaker enclosure is the next step. There is no set rule on which type of enclosure will work best with your car stereos system. You should determine which type of enclosure will give you the sound you desire. Different sizes and shapes of enclosures will produce different sounds. The best type of enclosure is an individual choice. You should experiment with various shapes and sizes until you find the sound quality you are looking for.

After your speakers are installed to your satisfaction, be sure to upholster your door panels with colors that match your car interior. Installing your car stereos system is a highly personal experience. Experiment with various locations and connections until you find the sound quality you are looking for.
