Anyone that knows their way around cars and boats can go to an electronics store, buy a stereo and some speakers and install them up on a boat, right? Making that install last is a whole other question. Finding the right stereo system for the harsh environment of a boat is no easy task. Now you need to combine that with getting a pair of indestructible but nice-sounding speakers, flush-mounting it in a protected yet accessible spot, running the correct wire to power, breakers and radio along with matching it to a good antenna. I hope you're prepared for a job that will require all of your patience and skill.

Probably the single, most important element of a marine audio system is its resistance to water damage for obvious reasons. Boats live on water so you really cannot expect to avoid some exposure to water in that environment. It also offers other dangers to an audio system such as humidity, wind, salt, corrosion, chlorine, sun, and so on.

For a quality marine system install, it is the design of the system which is so critical for the components and installation. When designing a balanced sound system, look at a few requirements such as the source, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, installation more carefully. Here are a few simple steps to help you with your install:

• Look over your boat and find areas where audio products can be safely placed so that they do not get wet. Most people put their amplifiers engine compartments in the rear of the boat or sometimes under the dashboard. Put the subwoofers in the compartment under the seats. You'll have your new stereo unit replace the old, original one. If you have any room in the side panels of the boat or under the dash, then put any and all of your mid-range and mid-bass speakers and tweeters in there.
• Draw a schematic of the system layout. Think about where you will be putting all of the audio components and where you will route the wires.
• Make sure you buy audio speakers made with a polypropylene cone. It a cone made from a rigid material which is known for resisting moisture. It's best to use two 10-inch subwoofers designed for infinite baffle mounting. Another available option is to include four speaker separates such as four 6- by 9-inch two-way speakers or four 6 1/2-inch two-way speakers. Two-way speakers are great because they include a midrange or mid-bass speaker and a tweeter and the more separates your system has, the louder it will be.
• Find yourself a good four-channel amplifier. Look for one specifically made for the marine environment. It will have specially treated circuit board enabling it to last longer around water and moisture. Companies like Rockford, Eclipse and Clarion make some nice models. Choose one with a built-in electronic crossover and runs stable with a 2 ohm load because it will be running very hot.
• Select a stereo head unit that can be controlled by an infrared remote control allowing you to keep the unit safely stored in a dry place, covered in plastic and still handy. Remember that for the remote to work properly it still needs to be in a line of sight to the unit. So part of it still needs to be exposed.

  It is also a good idea to have everything hooked up to a second battery, as well. This battery is used to power the audio system and upgrade the boat's alternator.

I can remember when I was a kid and we really wanted a stereo our cars sometimes we would put home stereo speakers in our rides and even though some people like to put home stereos in their cars and vans, sometimes it just doesn't work. Back in the day it worked okay with a simple radio or cassette player but these days with high tech CD players and MP3 players as well as the new pop up display LCDs that even play videos you just can't go cheap with the speakers. In addition to that home speakers aren't made for the small environment of a car; they are made for the home.

Like I said, some of us did use home units in our cars as a first stereo for our cars. Even though they didn't sound all that great at least it beat not having anything at all. The problem is that they aren't constructed to deal with the high temperature extremes and the bumps and jolts that a car stereo is built to deal with in an automotive environment. Of course true car stereo lovers were very dissatisfied with the quality of the sound in the earlier systems and when CD players came out the need for even higher quality speakers and other components was increased.

For those who own a vehicle that was made from 1990 to the present day you will already have some kind of factory stereo in your vehicle. This is because in the vast majority of vehicles made from that time period include stereos as standard equipment unless it is some kind of base model work vehicle. Some of the higher end automakers produce their own signature stereo systems. BMW now makes their own while Volkswagen and Mercedes all use systems from the German audio company, Blaupunkt which is a favorite of mine.

These days a good quality stereo system now will include a cassette player, a CD player either in dash or with an optional changer that will service more CDs which is usually trunk mounted. My Nissan Titan actually has an 8 disc CD changer mounted right in the dash. The newer models also are capable of playing MP3s usually though an audio plug in like the one my Titan has.

Stereo systems today consist of head units that are connected to numerous speakers, not like the old mono speakers that were only in the center of the dash. Now you have speakers in the doors, both sides of the dashboard, and in the rear of the car. Some larger cars and SUVs today have as many as 10 or 12 speakers in them which gives you an almost concert quality sound.

If you are new to the car stereo market, you may find yourself overwhelmed at the sheer number of parts and accessories that can make up a top of the line car stereo system. In this article, we'll explore the basic components that make up a functioning car stereo system.

1. The Head Unit: Making It Happen

You may have seen the term "head unit" before and not known what exactly it was. Simply put the head unit is the part of your car stereo that actually produces the music from radio, tape, CD, or other device. But nowadays you can also get head units for your car stereo that can play DVDs or music and video from USB flash drives or memory cards. Head units have sure come a long ways from when people used to install home stereo equipment in their vehicles!

2. Amplifiers: Bring the Boom

While your head unit may provide its own internal amplification (which may be enough for you), at some point most car stereo enthusiasts will want to add amplifiers to the mix. Simply put, and amplifier takes a signal coming out of your head unit, and makes it louder. Be careful when shopping for amplifiers, as some of the large amps can draw over 100 amps; this may be well over what your alternator and battery can provide, and can cause damage to those components.

3. Speakers: Woofers, Tweeters, What?

The best head unit and amp is completely useless without speakers. Speakers, regardless of size, all do one thing: take the electrical signal coming from either the head unit's internal amp or your external amp and turn it into sound, usually loud sound. The different types of speakers are classified by the range of sounds they can reproduce. Tweeters, for example, only reproduce high pitches, while woofers reproduce the upper bass ranges. Midranges make midrange sounds, strangely enough, while subwoofers cover sounds from the low bass all the way down to subsonics (those sounds you can feel but not hear). Subwoofers are usually the first candidate for external amplifiers, since they require large amounts of current to make that bone shaking bass.

Putting It All Together

Let's review: head units take your CD or tape and convert it to electrical signals. The amplifier makes this signal larger, and finally the speakers take that signal and make sound out of it. These are the base components you need for any car stereo installation. The accessories, such as crossovers and signal isolators, may or may not be needed for your particular application.

These are the basics you need to know for all car stereo systems. Now that you have a better idea what all these different terms actually mean, you should be able to shop intelligently for your new car stereo system. Just remember, as always, while you get what you pay for, you don't necessarily have to have the absolute best (and most expensive) parts for a good sound. More often than not, a midrange product will provide the best bang for your buck. And remember, it's all modular! You don't HAVE to buy every piece all at once. You can start with the head unit, and simply wire it's built in amplifier into your factory car stereo speakers. Add a sub and an amp later if you want, or replace the factory speakers with higher quality ones, it's all up to you.

So far, the public has told them to shove it by getting rid of a lot of gas guzzling vehicles. A deep cut would cause more gas guzzlers to go away if prices climb as a result of the cut. OPEC would get nowhere. It was oil company greed & ridiculous speculations that caused all of the current problems. That greed is at the root of it all. They can cut it if they want to but, their greed will only backfire in the end as Americans have wised up by learning a hard truth. They can't sell sand now, can they?

Apple Inc, is an American multinational corporation, which designs and manufactures consumer electronics and software products and best-known for its hardware products include Macintosh computers, the iPod and the iPhone.

To various computer users, the company has defined the PC industry, driven technology innovation, and changed the perception of personal computing. Since, 1976 the company reinvented itself several times over, as it developed and enhanced the Macintosh, affecting the world of computing every time it did. Macintosh or Mac, is a product line of personal computers designed, developed and marketed by Apple after its introduction in 1984.

Now, let's take a historical trip and learn how the Mac evolution led to the Apple's revolution.

The Apple I
Sold as an assembled circuit board, it lacked basic features such as a keyboard, monitor, and case. It was sold as a motherboard (with CPU, RAM, and basic textual-video chips) less than what is today considered a complete personal computer. The Apple I went on sale in July 1976 and was market-priced at $666.66.

The Apple II was introduced on April 16, 1977 and it differed from its major rivals, the TRS-80 and Commodore PET, because it came with color graphics and an open architecture. While early models used ordinary cassette tapes as storage devices, they were superseded by the introduction of a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk drive and interface, the Disk II.

Apple Lisa
With a price tag of $10,000, it was released in 1981 and remembered as one of Apple's most disappointing products. It was a more advanced system than the Macintosh of that time in many respects, such as its inclusion of protected memory, cooperative multitasking, a generally more sophisticated hard disk based operating system, a built-in screensaver, an advanced calculator with a paper tape and RPN, support for up to 2 MB of RAM, expansion slots, and a larger higher resolution display.

Mac 128K
Apple launched the Macintosh in a famed 1984 Super Bowl commercial, with a beige case which contains a 9-inch monitor and comes with a keyboard and mouse. It had a selling price of $2,495. It features an 8 MHz Motorola 68000 microprocessor, a 128 KB DRAM, a 64 KB ROM chip that boosts the effective memory to 192 KB.

Mac II
Retailing for US$3,898 base price (for the CPU unit only), the Macintosh II was the first "modular" Macintosh model, so called because it came in a horizontal desktop case like many PCs of the time. It introduced space for an internal hard disk (originally 20 MB or 40 MB) and an optional second floppy disk drive.

Mac Portable
It was Apple's first attempt at making a battery-powered portable Macintosh PC that held the power of a desktop Macintosh. It was released in September 1989 and received with excitement from most critics but with very poor sales to consumers. With a price tag of $6500, it featured a B&W active-matrix LCD screen, ergonomic keyboard, trackball and lead-acid battery with 10 hours life. It used expensive SRAM in an effort to maximize battery life and to provide an "instant on" low power sleep mode.

The 20th Anniversary Mac
To celebrate its 20 years, on January 7, 1997 Apple unveiled the limited edition Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh (TAM) at the MacWorld Expo, San Francisco.

At $7,499 the TAM featured a 250 MHz 603e processor, 12.1" active matrix LCD, with 2MB of VRAM, 4x CD-ROM, 2GB ATA hard drive, vertically mounted Apple Floppy SuperDrive, as well as a TV/FM tuner, S-Video card, and a custom-made Bose sound system. It had a trackpad instead of a mouse, which could be detached from the keyboard if desired. When not required, the keyboard could slide under the TAM's head unit, leaving the trackpad exposed for continued access.

iMac
Introduced in 1998, iMac is a range of all-in-one Macintosh desktop computers. The first original form, the iMac G3 was egg-shaped with a CRT monitor, enclosed by colored, translucent plastic. In the second revision, the iMac G4, moved to a design of a hemispherical base containing all the main components and an LCD monitor on a freely moving arm attached to the top of the base. The iMac G5 and the Intel iMac placed all the components immediately behind the display, creating a slim design that tilts only up and down on a simple metal base.

Earlier this year, Apple updated its offerings for the iMac, featuring NVIDIA chipsets and the new Mini-DisplayPort.

MacBook Air
On January 15, 2008, the company introduced its ultraportable the MacBook Air, a computer that the company billed as the world's thinnest notebook, priced starting at $1,799. Sporting a silvery finish, the MacBook Air features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display that has a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches. It is 12.8 inches wide and 8.95 inches deep.

Several features were sacrificed to reduce the computer's size and weight. It is Apple's first notebook since the PowerBook 2400c without a built-in removable media drive. It also omits a FireWire port, Ethernet port, line-in, card slots and a Kensington Security Slot. The battery is internal; not user removable and the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard. A single speaker is included for mono sound. It has been revised once since the original release.

I’ve been selling car audio amplifiers online for over a decade now. Through the years, the single most often asked question is “how do I select an amplifier for my new speakers or subwoofer?”

LetÂ’s try to de-mystify this selection process if we can. This information is presented to help the online-shopper make reasonable decisions. It is geared toward the published information that is generally available in most product descriptions on the web. LetÂ’s face the facts, if you have been in the line of car audio for years and have completed several installs, you know what you are looking for. But many, if not most online shoppers are not that familiar with the finer points of car amplifier installations.

Many, who are new to car audio will first look for “US made” as a stamp of high quality. Although that might have been true when I first started out decades ago, it certainly isn’t a serious guideline anymore. Although this is not particularly important if searching for a subwoofer amp, it certainly should be a deciding factor in purchasing a good amp to drive your mids and tweeters.

The above two points will enable a shopper to match an amp to his new speakers but there are several other more general points to consider also. One such point is: does your car radio or source unit have a low-level output connection? This allows you to connect directly to the standard low-level inputs on your amp. If your head unit isnÂ’t so equipped, youÂ’ll need an amplifier with a high-level input. This high-level input enables you to connect your speaker wires from your head unit directly to the amp. There are adapters available if your selected amp doesnÂ’t have this feature, so donÂ’t let this point rule out an otherwise acceptable amplifier.

You should also consider your physical location for your install before shopping. Be sure you can secure your amp properly and that the location provides enough air circulation. DonÂ’t forget to measure the installation area to ensure you purchase an amplifier that will fit. DonÂ’t laugh, IÂ’ve had more then a few customers over the years forget this basic requirement until it was too late.

If your amp will power two sets of speakers such as a component set in front and a coaxial or mids in the rear, I would recommend purchasing a four channel amp instead of a stereo amp. This will give you full fader control which will not be available if you split one stereo channel for two sets of speakers, front and rear. Sometimes your local installers will suggest going with multiple amps instead. Could the reason be that they desire to sell another amp and set of installation parts?

Another option to look for is built-in low-pass and high-pass crossovers. Finally, be sure your amp has a gain control. This is necessary to properly match your vehicle sound levels to your speakers when installed in your specific vehicle. This also allows you to purchase an amplifier that might be a bit larger or more powerful then your speakers with a view to expanding your system in the future. Going along with this thought, if purchasing a multi-channel amplifier, you should consider one capable of running at 2 ohms in case you ever decide to add a subwoofer at a later date. For decades now, car people have always pushed their car stereos to the limit in order to produce the best sound possible. The latest and hottest growing trend in car audio now is the idea of surround sound speaker systems. The thought behind it is to have all the speakers in your car set up exactly like that surround sound audio system you have in your living room. There is a reason why everyone wants one in their car. It simply sounds incredible. Here is how you can go about bringing that movie theater sound experience into your daily ride to work.

• One of the first goals to check off your list is find a stereo head unit which allows you to wire in a surround-sound processor. Since the processor will be digital, your head unit needs to supply a digital signal. You will also need fiber-optic cables. They are used to transmit digital signals between the components. If you previously purchased a nice head unit but it cannot supply digital signals, get a CD changer with fiber-optic connection. Connect the processor to the CD changer but remember that unit you will not get a surround-sound effect, if you play a CD. You can always select a surround-sound processor that converts RCA signals to digital.
• Make sure your car is equipped with a high-end CD changer and/or DVD unit that plays the software that carries the surround-sound signals.
• You should install a five-channel amplifier that can provide power for the front speakers, the rear speakers, and the subwoofers. Each corner of the car plus the subwoofers will be separate channels.
• The center channel should have a 4- to 6-inch midrange speaker and a tweeter. This type of combination should be in its own enclosure and placed in the center portion of the carÂ’s dashboard.
• You now need to install an amplifier to run the center-channel speakers. You can get away with a two-channel amplifier played bridged mono but have it contain an electronic crossover which can be outboard, or built in to the amplifiers.
• You are now set to begin installing the speakers which will be in all four corners of the car. Some of the newer cars already have speaker locations work perfectly surround-sound setting. Older cars are a different story and will require a touch of imagination and some work. YouÂ’ll need to add a tweeter high on the pillar at shoulder height, while a midrange speaker is used in the factory-made opening in the door.
• Now that all of your speakers are in place, set the electronic crossover for the center channel. Don't play it at full range but opt instead for about 80 Hz and up for optimal sound quality.
• Once everything has been installed, adjust the system to find the perfect fit of sound quality and volume for you. Play around with the amplifier gains and then the surround sound processor for any type of tweaks you may need.

You have chosen your new car stereo and now it is time to install. The final result will depend on the quality of the installation. It won't matter how expensive your car stereos system is if you do not install it correctly. Your speaker sound will depend on the amplifier and the type of enclosure. Your amplifier will depend on the current, and the current will depend on the alternator and the wiring. Mistakes will leave you with disappointing results. Here are a few tips that will make the installation of your car stereos system a success:

The first thing you should do is determine the location of the speakers. Speaker location is the key to quality sound. The distance between the left and right speakers and the distance between the left and right ears is not always the same. Try to make the difference between the left and right speakers as little as possible. You may have better luck if you place the speakers on the floor, but you do run the risk of the sound seemingly coming from below. The location of your speakers is imperative to the sound quality you get from your car stereo. When installing your car stereos system, place the speakers temporarily in various locations to find the perfect sound before you install them permanently.

After you have determined the perfect location for your speakers, you must use Dynamat or other similar materials to stop vibration. This is to prevent the metal panels from becoming part of your sound system. If your car stereo has excellent quality factory audio you should have no need for an additional circuit. Use good quality cables and do not cut costs on clamps and distribution blocks. This is the time to install filters as well.

Building a speaker enclosure is the next step. There is no set rule on which type of enclosure will work best with your car stereos system. You should determine which type of enclosure will give you the sound you desire. Different sizes and shapes of enclosures will produce different sounds. The best type of enclosure is an individual choice. You should experiment with various shapes and sizes until you find the sound quality you are looking for.

After your speakers are installed to your satisfaction, be sure to upholster your door panels with colors that match your car interior. A regular car audio system refers to a manufacturer installed system. A custom car installation can involve anything from the upgrade of the radio to a total custom fit-out. Events are held where people compete for the loudest or most innovative systems.

The most common pieces of equipment are the radio/tape player/CD player/DVD Player called a Head unit, or a head deck. These components are likely to be upgraded with an after market product. Head unit technology has developed to include CD players with MP3, Ogg, WMA, AAC, and USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support. Car audio systems can have line-in jacks and other equipment features like tape adaptors, and video touch screen that controlling; navigation, dvd movies, mp3 players, back up cameras, and other accessories.

Most modern cars have a CD player/ CD recorder, and and optional CD changer, which holds several CD's. Now the manufactures are offering DVD players and LCD screens. LCD screens are located and integrated into things that slide out and folds up, or the instrument panel and the DVD head unit. The screen might show video output for a navigation system, 3G cell phone or parking cameras.

Speakers are located in doors and rear shelves of a cars. High-end stereo systems often have speakers mounted in kick panels, to accommodate larger drivers and better controller placement. Before stereo radio was introduced, the most common speaker location was in the middle of the dashboard. High-end systems will have Component Speakers that have balanced tweeter, mid-range, and woofer settings. They are available in two speaker and three speaker combinations, and include an audio crossover to limit frequency ranges that the speakers must handle. This allows each cone to produce optimal frequency for maximum sound quality and volume. In addition subwoofers are provided for bass and sub bass, the lower the frequency the less the ear picks it up, but the vibration is more pronounced. Sub bass is omni-directional, meaning that the ear can't figure out where the sound is coming from.

Amplifiers

Amplifiers make power to drive the speakers. The amplifier is a very important component of a speaker system. It makes sure that the total power handling capacity of the speakers is adhered to. Amplifiers commonly come in two,four or six channels. Subwoofer amplifiers are mostly Mono Amplifiers. It is common that multiple channels are marked for the exclusive use in allowing for more than one channel to be used.

Capacitors

Capacitors are used to store energy for the amplifier. Capacitors are useful because they can reduce voltage loss to other components in a car. Large capacitors sometimes offset headlight and/or interior light dimming because of too little amp draw from the alternator. A capacitor is only good for an audio system trying to get too many amps from the electrical system. A capacitor doesn't provide more power, it just stores it. The alternator must have more than 20% amp power than the entire vehicle and sound system combined for a capacitor to be of benefit. About 0.5 farad of capacitance is needed for every 500 watts of power. A capacitor does not affect sound in any way. It is strictly for power conditioning.

Computer (computador) is an appliance which can manipulate data in accordance with a list of instructions. It is a type of data processing system.

Today the computer (computador) has become indispensable in every household and comes in numerous physical forms. The first modern day computer was developed in the mid-20th century, though the concept of computer (computador) and various similar machines existed before. It actually started in 1837, when `The Analytical Engine`, the first fully programmable mechanical computer, was designed by Charles Babbage.

The Earlier versions were huge and bulky and used up a whole room. The device EDSAC (Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator) was one of the very first computers that could implement the stored program architecture. In comparison to them, modern computers (computador) have tiny integrated circuits and are much better in terms of capacity and speed as well as accuracy. Today`s tinier version can even fit in your wrist watch and are powered from the watch battery. Personal computers can be found in almost every house today and in various forms. They are in fact the icons of the information age.

What makes computers (computador) highly versatile and distinguishable from other appliances is that it can be programmed. A calculator can only calculate, just like a washing machine can only wash, but a computer can be programmed to do any kind of job. Software programs are a list of instructions that can be stored and executed by the computer.

A general computer (computador) has four major sections, the arithmetic and logical unit or ALU, the control unit or CU, memory and the interface for input and output devices. These parts of computer are interconnected by busses. The ALU, control unit, registers, and the interface for input and output devices are collectively known as the central processing unit or CPU. The Early CPUs used to be composed of different separate components, however since the 1975; the CPUs are being constructed on a single integrated circuit, the microprocessor.

The ALU is for arithmetic and logical operations of the computer while the control unit is for directing the various parts of a computer (computador). Its job involves reading and interpreting the instructions of the programs one by one and converting them into control signals for operating other parts of the computer.

The earlier version of computer (computador) used Magnetic core memory but today it has been replaced by the semiconductor memory. The main memory of Computer is divided in two parts, RAM or random access memory and ROM or read-only memory. RAM can be written and read anytime through CPU commands. On the other hand, ROM is pre-loaded with software and data that never changes, and it can be only read by the CPU.

I/O is hardware by the means of which a computer(computador) can receive information from the outside world and also sends back results. Common input devices are the keyboard and mouse. While common output devices include monitor and printer. There are some devices that serve as both input and output devices like Hard disk drives, optical disc drives, floppy disk drives etc.

Internet has literary changed our lives. Today people can search all types of information on various subjects, advertise their company or products pass information to a large group of people and do much more merely by a few clicks of the mouse. Whether you want to search a new home or compare prices of the latest mobile or fill up your college form or read the latest Harry Potter book, everything can be done on the Internet through your computer.

Kenwood tested out the double DIN in-dash navigation market with the DNX7100 in early 2007. Upon discovering its success, Kenwood continued its pursuit for supremacy in the car audio industry with the introduction of three 2008 DNX Series in-dash navigation: the DNX5120, DNX7120, and DNX8120.

All three of these units feature a built-in Garmin GPS navigation system with over 6 million points of interest for maps of the United States (including Hawaii), Canada, and even Puerto Rico. In addition, the DNX units could give users voice guidance of street names and upcoming turns. The in dash head unit could also receive XM live traffic as well as weather information and display them on the screen

The DNX Series receivers features either a 6.1" touchscreen LCD monitor on the DNX5120 or on a 6.95" touchscreen LCD monitor on both the DNX7120 and the DNX 8120. They're impressively vivid and bright, which allows drivers to navigate using the screen much better in direct sunlight. The DNX units also allow users to change the user interface themes so that it would better fit you and the interior of your car.

Not only are they in-dash navigation units, they're also versatile multimedia players capable of DVD, DVD±R/RW, DivX, VCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, AAC (Apple iTunes), MP3, WMA, and JPEG playback with automatic NTSC or PAL color system switching. Moreover, the DNX receivers are Satellite Radio, HD Radio, iPod, and even Bluetooth Ready with additional accessories. The only difference between the Kenwood DNX8120 and the Kenwood DNX7120 is the 2-year warranty tagged on to the eXcelon name that is associated with the DNX8120 instead of its regular version, the DNX7120. In addition, the DNX8120 features 5V preamp outputs, and not just the typical 2V outputs that is featured on the DNX7120.
