If you are looking for fine French wine and food, consider the Alsace region of northeastern France. You may find a bargain, and I hope that you'll have fun on this fact-filled wine education tour in which we review a local white Riesling winetasted with several meals and paired with imported cheeses.

Alsace ranks tenth out of the eleven French winemaking regions in terms of its acreage devoted vineyards. But donÂ’t be mislead by statistics; little Alsace is a major producer of quality French wine. Its wine growing area is barely 60 miles (100 kilometers) long, and at most 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) wide tucked between the Vosges Mountains to the west and the Rhine River and Germany to the east. But this relatively tiny area is famous for its distinctive wines. Their wine bottles are also distinctive; tall and thin with labels that feature the grape variety, not the usual practice in France. Chaptalization (adding sugar to the fermenting grape mixture) is allowed for many wine categories.

About 95% of Alsace wine is white. The major white grape varieties are Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Pinot Gris, and Riesling, reviewed below. Its secondary white grape varieties include Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, and Muscat. The major red grape variety is Pinot Noir, reviewed in a companion article in this series.

The beautiful Vosges mountains are located in eastern France near the Rhine River and Black Forest of western Germany. To a large extent they are composed of granite and red sandstone. Their highest point is the Grand Ballon (also called Ballon de Guebwiller) with an elevation of about 4600 feet (slightly more than 1424 meters). The vineyards of its eastern slopes have an elevation of up to 1300 feet (400 meters).

The Vosges mountains are great for tourists. Attractions include beautiful forests, several castles in ruins, and health resorts. If you are so inclined you can hike their usually gentle slopes and are never far from vineyards and restaurants serving delicious foods and local wines. After all, you are on the Alsace Wine Route, at least for the eastern slopes. DonÂ’t forget the winter skiing. The southern Vosges, near the village of Bussang, is home to a lovely fountain exploiting a spring that originates in the Moselle River. I hope you donÂ’t mind that this particular area is just over the border in Lorraine.

Before reviewing the Alsatian wine and imported cheeses that we were lucky enough to purchase at a local wine store and a local Italian food store, here are a few suggestions of what to eat with indigenous wines when touring this beautiful region.

Start with Schniederspaetle (Onion Ravioli).

For your second course savor Brochet dÂ’I a la creme (Pike in White Wine and Cream Sauce).

And as dessert indulge yourself with Strudel aux Pommes (Apple Strudel).

Hattstatty Hatschbourg Riesling 2003 12.5% alcohol about $21.00

LetÂ’s start by quoting the marketing materials.

This wine won a Gold Medal at the 2006 Concours Riesling du Monde. Established in 1998, the Concours Riesling du Monde (Rieslings of the World) competition takes place every year in Strasbourg, Alsace. Rieslings from throughout the world are submitted to an international jury of oenologists and wine critics. This hugely respected competition illustrates the diversity and brilliance of fine Riesling from around the world. And now for the review.

My first meal consisted of home made barbecued chicken in a sweet and sour Thai sauce with Portabello mushrooms and red pepper. The wine was fruity, nice and complex. It was quite a good match and I knew that this would be a quality wine.

The next shot was a commercially barbecued chicken leg (of course not as tasty as my own barbecued chicken) with its skin in a paprika sauce accompanied by, Turkish salad, and Greek olives. I started by sipping the wine alone, as I was afraid that I might have lost the bottle because the wine sat in the fridge for quite some time. No problem. This Riesling wine was fine with an appely taste but in the positive sense. In response to the food the wine got even better. It was quite long and powerful and yet delicate. While I liked the Greek olives and I liked the wine, I did not enjoy the two together. The RieslingÂ’s acidity actually intensified in the presence of the moderately spicy Turkish salad. I finished my glass with overripe cherries. This time the wine went flat, especially with the sweet ones.

The final meal was an omelet with a local Provolone cheese and a side of Turkish salad. The wine was nice and crisp. I tasted a touch of lime. As dessert I had a high-quality chocolate-coated vanilla ice cream bar. The ice cream bar was fine but it did flatten the wine somewhat.

My first cheese was a nutty, fatty, and slightly sour Dutch Edam cheese. My German Edam was well beyond edible by humans, although the spores looked like they were having a real feast. Anyway, in the presence of this Dutch Edam the Riesling was round and fruity, with pleasant acidity. In the presence of an Italian Friulano cheese the wine became sour and flatter.

Final verdict. Great wine, I will buy it again and watch my pairings more closely. This should accompany very well the right gourmet meal.

Anyone that knows their way around cars and boats can go to an electronics store, buy a stereo and some speakers and install them up on a boat, right? Making that install last is a whole other question. Finding the right stereo system for the harsh environment of a boat is no easy task. Now you need to combine that with getting a pair of indestructible but nice-sounding speakers, flush-mounting it in a protected yet accessible spot, running the correct wire to power, breakers and radio along with matching it to a good antenna. I hope you're prepared for a job that will require all of your patience and skill.

Probably the single, most important element of a marine audio system is its resistance to water damage for obvious reasons. Boats live on water so you really cannot expect to avoid some exposure to water in that environment. It also offers other dangers to an audio system such as humidity, wind, salt, corrosion, chlorine, sun, and so on.

For a quality marine system install, it is the design of the system which is so critical for the components and installation. When designing a balanced sound system, look at a few requirements such as the source, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, installation more carefully. • Look over your boat and find areas where audio products can be safely placed so that they do not get wet. Two-way speakers are great because they include a midrange or mid-bass speaker and a tweeter and the more separates your system has, the louder it will be.
• Find yourself a good four-channel amplifier. Look for one specifically made for the marine environment. It will have specially treated circuit board enabling it to last longer around water and moisture. Companies like Rockford, Eclipse and Clarion make some nice models. Choose one with a built-in electronic crossover and runs stable with a 2 ohm load because it will be running very hot.
• Select a stereo head unit that can be controlled by an infrared remote control allowing you to keep the unit safely stored in a dry place, covered in plastic and still handy. Remember that for the remote to work properly it still needs to be in a line of sight to the unit. So part of it still needs to be exposed.

  It is also a good idea to have everything hooked up to a second battery, as well. This battery is used to power the audio system and upgrade the boat's alternator.

For decades now, car people have always pushed their car stereos to the limit in order to produce the best sound possible. Our grandparentsÂ’ cars with their bulky and static-filled AM radios gave way to the FM broadcasts and cassette tape playing stereoÂ’s of our parents. Now, car manufacturers are going digital with the use of not only CD players but satellite radio with MP3 playing compatibility.

The latest and hottest growing trend in car audio now is the idea of surround sound speaker systems. The thought behind it is to have all the speakers in your car set up exactly like that surround sound audio system you have in your living room. There is a reason why everyone wants one in their car. It simply sounds incredible. Here is how you can go about bringing that movie theater sound experience into your daily ride to work.

• One of the first goals to check off your list is find a stereo head unit which allows you to wire in a surround-sound processor. Since the processor will be digital, your head unit needs to supply a digital signal. You will also need fiber-optic cables. They are used to transmit digital signals between the components. If you previously purchased a nice head unit but it cannot supply digital signals, get a CD changer with fiber-optic connection. Connect the processor to the CD changer but remember that unit you will not get a surround-sound effect, if you play a CD. You can always select a surround-sound processor that converts RCA signals to digital.
• Make sure your car is equipped with a high-end CD changer and/or DVD unit that plays the software that carries the surround-sound signals.
• You should install a five-channel amplifier that can provide power for the front speakers, the rear speakers, and the subwoofers. Each corner of the car plus the subwoofers will be separate channels.
• The center channel should have a 4- to 6-inch midrange speaker and a tweeter. This type of combination should be in its own enclosure and placed in the center portion of the carÂ’s dashboard.
• You now need to install an amplifier to run the center-channel speakers. You can get away with a two-channel amplifier played bridged mono but have it contain an electronic crossover which can be outboard, or built in to the amplifiers.
• You are now set to begin installing the speakers which will be in all four corners of the car. Some of the newer cars already have speaker locations work perfectly surround-sound setting. Older cars are a different story and will require a touch of imagination and some work. YouÂ’ll need to add a tweeter high on the pillar at shoulder height, while a midrange speaker is used in the factory-made opening in the door.
• Now that all of your speakers are in place, set the electronic crossover for the center channel. Don't play it at full range but opt instead for about 80 Hz and up for optimal sound quality.
• Once everything has been installed, adjust the system to find the perfect fit of sound quality and volume for you. Play around with the amplifier gains and then the surround sound processor for any type of tweaks you may need.

For many many years the only radio selections have been AM or FM and while each of these provide a different format some things are still the same. The static that can be found when trying to pull in that station you want to hear but just can not seem to get it in right, then there is also the problem when listening to some shows on the radio and even some music with censorship.

Censorship is fine and should be used as anyone of any age is able to turn on a radio and find a radio station to listen too and this is especially good with young children who are old enough to not be in under their parent's watchful eye. However when an adult listens to the radio they are often looking for crisp clear sound and they want to hear the whole news show with opinions and language that may not be acceptable on AM or FM stations. The Bonyard is a station for when you are in the mood for action with bands such as AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N' Roses and for a little calmer music Bon Jovi or Metallica and this just touches on the 80's hard rock from America and Europe that can be heard.

When it is time to listen to something else there are stations such as Oprah and Friends, there is Radio Disney that will thrill the while family with fantasy prizes and the interaction on this station.

Then there are the talk news shows when it is time for catching up with what is going on in the world from conflicts to elections there are stations to hear each side of the situation.

This is what satellite radio has to offer at just a glimpse and with 73 of these stations there are sure to be stations that will interest everyone in the family as well as educate about the world around you.

Yes, I could have called AAA, but as you probably have experienced, that can sometimes take anywhere from an hour to several hours depending on your location. My point is that I have realized from that experience how much a portable battery jump starter with an air compressor could have helped and how it really is an overlooked tool that should be in every car trunk for emergency.

So around last year I started browsing for portable battery jump starters with air compressors online. To my surprise, I did not find too many websites offering them, not as much as I presumed anyway. Fortunately, now there are plenty of these jump starters with air compressors online and hey, when your old man's birthday comes around guess what you can buy him!

So, for practical drivers out there I hope my story grabs your attention, because I've noticed that many of my friends and family have never owned a tool like a portable jump starter. I want to get one for my Dad, he would love it. I've recently discovered that some battery jump starters have the "all-in-one" features of built-in light and power source and inverter!

As you all know, keeping your tires properly inflated is one key way to maximize performance and gas mileage for your vehicle. It reduces the "drag." Experts estimate that you can improve your gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent with proper tire pressure. That's a savings of about $0.11 per gallon. I

know that does not sound like much, but with gas prices at record highs, every bit helps. Under-inflated tires, however, can lower gas mileage by as much as 0.4 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Plus, properly inflated tires are actually safer and last longer. Remember to always look for the maximum psi on your tires before you get carried away pumping. I always keep a Vector 400 amp jump starter with air compressor in the trunk of my car. What's so cool is that it even has a pressure gauge to read the psi while pumping the tires.

As far as jump starting your car, always follow the safety tips and read the manual of your jump starter.

Also, experts recommend to wear polycarbonate goggles with the designation Z-87 on the frame that are splash-proof and designed for activities like automotive repair.

Again, there are even more uses for a portable battery jump starter with a power source. The portable 12 volt power source can power up small electrical devices while camping for instance. I even jammed on my electrical guitar with my friend outside at a park while hooking up my mini amplifier to my portable jump starter with power source!

So, even if you never have to use your portable battery jump starter to jump start your own car, you may have the opportunity to help a friend or neighbor in need of a jump start. They may need their tires inflated with a portable air compressor.

Most do not realize that Lincoln actually had its beginnings as a company separate from Ford Motor Company. The company was started by Henry Leland in 1917 and named for one of Leland's heroes, President Abraham Lincoln. Henry Leland had actually been one of the founders of the Cadillac Car Company, which had been the Henry Ford Company. The Lincoln Motor Company was created to build Liberty aircraft engines for the United Stated during World War One. With the end of the war, Leland had the factories retooled to produce automobiles. Ford Motor Company was able to acquire Lincoln in 1922 when the luxury automobile manufacturer encountered severe financial difficulties. Henry Ford was quite pleased to be able to acquire the company from Leland. He viewed it as retribution as Leland had led investors to force Ford out of the Detroit Automobile Company, a company that Ford had founded.

Once Ford acquired the company, body style changes were introduced and the price was lowered. These changes resulted in increased sales to 5,512 vehicles sold in 1922. Up from the previous 150 models sold the previous year, which had led to the hardship that had forced the company into bankruptcy.

In 1923, several different body styles were introduced including a two-passenger roadster and a seven-passenger limousine.

A specially designed police model, known as the Police Flyer was marketed to law enforcement divisions around the country. A special draw was Ford's willingness to modify the vehicles to suit the needs of police officers in the field. Bulletproof windows were added, spotlights were placed on the sides of the vehicle and gun racks were mounted to the interior section of cars. The cars were also fitted with four-wheel brakes a full two years before they were offered on vehicles meant for private sale. These police cruisers coupled with the success of the four door private sedans allowed the Lincoln division to show a profit margin by the end of 1924 just two years after the company had been pulled from the jaws of bankruptcy.

The bestselling car in Lincoln's history was developed by a designer named Eugene T. "Bob" Gregorie. Gregorie was designing a car for Edsel Ford who wanted a sleeker vehicle more in line with European style cars. The Lincoln Zephyr was the result and was offered for the 1936 model year. Sales skyrocketed its first year on market and sales for Ford increased by 9 times what it had done the previous year. This was the car that would eventually become the Lincoln Continental, one of the most important cars in the history of Lincoln. The car was so successful that it was nearly used as a brand name by itself. The advent of World War Two ended production of the popular Zephyr when Ford converted many of its factories to war work. The Continental which would go on to become so famous was based on mostly completely of the Zephyr.

Lincoln has also occupied a prominent place in history by providing many of the vehicles that would be used as official state vehicles for presidents of the United States. The first Lincoln vehicle to be used in this capacity was a 1939 Lincoln V12 used by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The limousine in use on that fateful day in Dallas in November 1963 was also a Lincoln. It is currently on display at the Henry Ford Museum. Lincoln vehicles have also been used by Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush.

Beginning in 2007, Lincoln made a change to its marketing strategy and began giving three-letter names to all new models with the exception of the Navigator and the Town Car. In 2009, Lincoln is expected to make the MKS its new flagship model, replacing the Town Car, which has had that position in the Ford line up since 1981.

While home theater systems have been around for quite some time, Blu-ray disc capable home theater systems few and far in between. For the most part, this means that anyone wanting to watch full HD video on their home theater system have to get a separate Blu-ray disc player. For the user who is starting from scratch, its nice to have the option of getting a system than can play everything without having to search for the Blu-ray player that jives with the home theater system of your choice. For this reason, Sony have come up with the Sony HTSS360 Blu-ray Disc Player Home Theater System that consists of an AV receiver with three HDMI inputs and a 5.1 speaker system.

The Sony HTSS360 has four identical speakers (the front and surround speakers), as well as a tiny center channel and a sub-woofer. The front/surround speakers are encased in plastic with each speaker housing a single 2.6-inch cone driver. The center channel is even more compact than the speakers while the sub-woofer is passive in that it is un-powered with no built-in amp. This means that the system has a very small footprint in comparison to other home theater systems and should fit any room quite well.

Even the AV receiver has been made compact, complete with a stylish silver finish that would blend in well with most decors. The front panel has almost no controls except for the power button, input selection button and the huge volume knob on the right. The Sony HTSS360's remote is the standard Sony remote but thankfully it comes with bass and treble controls as well.

While the Sony HTSS360 comes with an automatic speaker calibration feature, you can also do your own manual tweaking. The set comes with an auto-setup microphone, which plugs into the back of the unit. The set also has a DCAC (Digital Cinema Auto Calibration) system that adjusts the volume level of each speaker and the sub-woofer, measuring the distance between each speaker and the user's listening position.

On top of the three HDMI inputs, the Sony HTSS360 is equipped with 3 analog audio inputs and 3 digital audio inputs; 2 optical and 1 coaxial. It also has Sony's Digital Media Port and comes equipped with Dolby and DTS sound decoding modes, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, and DTS. While there is no built-in support for satellite radio or HD radio, the Sony HTSS360 does offer both AM and FM tuners.

The Toyota Venza is more or less a crossover car. Toyota Venza's unique looks make it look almost 70 percent like a car and the rest - 30 percent - as a SUV. Stress has become the common enemy of people, regardless their age. We cannot get rid of it. All we can do is to find the wisest and the most effective methods to prevent it. There are not many ways to prevent stress, but the existent ones can be very efficient. Thalassic therapy is one of them. Everybody can enjoy the gentle caress of the seawater on his or her body.

Historically, we used seawater for its therapeutic virtues. However, where does the sea draw its benefits? What can it bring us?

What is thalassic therapy?

According to the official definition, thalassic therapy is the combined use in a privileged marine environment, under medical supervision and on preventive and curative purpose of the marine benefits that include marine climate, seawater, sea mud, algae, sand, and other substances extracted from the sea.

Thalassic therapy takes therefore its virtues from a combination of factors. Thus, we cannot make a spa "in town" because the marine environment is an integral part of the spa. With its natural aerosols and negative ions suspended, it invigorates the body, balances the nervous system, and improves oxygenation. Moreover, each region has its benefits. If the Channel is known for its invigorating effect, the Atlantic is known for its tonic effects and the Mediterranean for its sedative virtues.

The principle of thalassic therapy is that hot seawater temperature close to the body (34-36 ° C) and thanks to the osmosis effect, all mineral elements, and live content of seawater enter through the skin.

Heating water allows on the one hand to maximize the active ingredients and therapeutic effects of the seawater, and to cause vasodilatation and thus a better absorption of it through the skin.

Seawater, Treasure of Nature

Sea water is a living place where animals and plants abound, making it a formidable reserve of nutrients (minerals, oligoelements) and a bio-chemical complex beneficial to our well-being and our health. Algae are also real sources of health: they offer a hundredfold fortifying, re-mineralizing, and balancing virtues of minerals.

This wealth of seawater and algae associated with the marine climate brings its benefits at several levels. Above all, it favors muscle relaxation and increases mobility of joints. Indications

The indications of thalassic therapy are vast, as well as preventive and curative. Here are the main diseases of the bones and joints (arthritis, osteoporosis, inflammatory rheumatism, back problems, injuries, and rehabilitation), respiratory problems (asthma, sinusitis ...), gerontology, fatigue, blood flow problems, endocrine disorders, gynecological problems, cellulite, convalescence that can be cured by thalassic therapy.

Conversely, some counter indications exist though: infectious diseases, allergy to iodine, dysfunction of the thyroid, certain skin diseases. In addition, people with heart disease should take advice from their doctor before such a therapy.

To be effective, a spa treatment should last at least 6 days, and four treatments daily are necessary.

The venerable Buick Park Avenue is no more, having been replaced by the all new Buick Lucerne, a down market version of the Cadillac DTS. With a 275-hp Northstar V8 engine, the Lucerne becomes the first Buick car in nearly ten years to arrive equipped with a V8. The entire Buick line up is in the process of being overhauled, so let's take a look at this make's newest flagship and see how it plays a part in GM's overall strategy.

If you are a fan of the Buick brand you have witnessed your fair share of changes over the past five years. Gone are the Park Avenue, LeSabre, Century, and Regal, and in its place are the Rendezvous, the Rainier, LaCrosse, Terrazza, and the Lucerne. All the changes are the result of General Motors' broad realignment strategy in the wake of retiring the Oldsmobile brand, lifting Saturn into the fold, and setting strategy to compete against the nonstop onslaught of foreign brands including Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, and Infiniti.

One look at the Buick and you will notice a strong resemblance to the Cadillac DTS. The Buick's oval grille sets it apart from the Cadillac's firm nose, but a cursory examination of the body lines tells you that these cars are in fact twins. In the past, Buicks were essentially "stripped down" versions of Cadillacs, while Oldsmobile and Pontiac were more luxurious or sportier versions of Chevrolet models. Clearly, GM is repositioning Buick to have a more distinct "near luxury" look without stepping on Cadillac's toes, while giving the Buick division a much needed replacement for the aging Park Avenue.

For the car shopper, the Lucerne is value priced, arriving at in showrooms at just under 27K. With a standard 3.8 V6, the automaker can claim decent fuel mileage of 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. In these days of hyped up gas prices, favorable fuel economy is a keen marketing tool, but expect many buyers to opt for the ultra powerful Northstar V8 instead. Why? Because, if they want to purchase a Buick, they likely will want the power to go along with the luxury. It remains to be seen how well the V6 operates in a car that is 203 inches long and weighing in at nearly two tons.

Standard equipment for the Lucerne includes the following: power windows, door locks, and mirrors; side curtain air bags for the front seat; theft deterrent system; OnStar; keyless entry; and more.

The optional equipment list is expansive and can easily drive the starting price of the top of the line CSX to over 35K. For that price you receive heated power seats with lumbar support; a memory package that adjusts the seats, mirrors, radio, and climate control to each driver's specifications; sport leather steering wheel with built in controls; and more.

A fully loaded Lucerne is still several thousand dollars less than the DTS, making the Lucerne a value leader in the luxury car category. Still, Buick has its work cut out for it as competition from foreign brands including Acura, BMW, and Lexus continue to hammer away at GM's "near luxury" division. Fortunately, quality levels for all Buicks remain very high so combining that level of success with a strong price may help the Lucerne compete admirably.
